This short was pretty ridiculous. It started off as weird to me, but quickly turned to humorous, but then it dragged on for so long that I just got bored of it after a while. That Plastic bag really couldn't take a hint, it was pretty obvious that the woman was cheating on him. Also, from this short I learned that the Pacific Trash Vortex is a thing, so that's kind of cool. I feel like the general idea of this short was to convey an environmentally friendly message in a creative and funny way, which it definitely accomplished. As a viewer, it was hard from me to disconnect from the fact that I was listening to a Paper Bag's POV long enough to enjoy the camerawork or the scoring. This short has taught me that concepts shouldn't be distracted from the technical aspects of a film.
At the beginning of the film I thought this was going to take a humorous turn but it only seemed to become more emotional and somewhat serious. I am not quite sure if the director was wanting to create a little laughter or if he wanted a sense of drama. This story could have been ten minutes or under and conveyed the same message but ideas began to repeat themselves and I found myself bored with the shot variation and slowly building music. Although, the music in the end is what really made the film seem like a human was experiencing this instead of an inanimate object. The build of the music became more and more emotionally driven just as the final scene to a drama would be in the theaters, this created an almost comedic yet sympathetic feeling for the plastic bag. I think that the director used this to see how camera work, music and other aspects of this film can extract an emotion from the audience for this inanimate object, and at least for me, I think he succeeded.
I really disliked this short. I was expecting a lot when I heard Werner Herzog’s voice ring over the opening beach scene. Typically his films or one’s that he is associated with tend to be deep, insightful, and interesting. I understood the point of the short, trying to open people’s eyes to our effect on the world through the life of a plastic bag, but it moved so sluggishly that it got boring. “Plastic Bag” could have had a bigger impact with a more concise vision. However, with that said, the camera work and many of the shots were beautiful and inspiring. I feel maybe the editing was the downfall not the idea.
We all know that a plastic bag is an object but this just takes it to another level. "Plastic Bag" short film by Ramin Bahrani is a strange concept. I do like the fact that Bahrani thought outside of the box with this short film and I also like the way it was shot. The different angles really captured the many environments to the fullest. But this is just weird. The journey of a plastic bag from the store to the ocean. We see the plastic bag go through many normal things that plastic bags are used for like icing a wound. My only thing is where, how, and why did Bahrani begin to think that this concept would maybe become such a success? The fact that he was different with his concept really paid off for him in this short film.
Wow. This film had the pathetic intention of swirling American Beauty, Wall-E, and a Katy Perry song. You could float hundreds of plastic bags with the blow hard, long winded style of this short film. What are eighteen minute pointless pieces called besides hellish? The voiceover was boring, the concept was trite, and the plot was pointless. This looked like the workings of a pretentious twelve year old Richard Linklater absent of any good qualities learning how to use a camera. Also, the woman at the beginning was more into reducing, reusing, and recycling than anyone I have ever seen. How many people use their plastic bags eight different times? I was more interested in her psyche. In conclusion, watching this was some of the worst combined minutes of my life. I can’t imagine a viewer that feels differently.
This short being 15+ minutes long didn't help it in my opinion. I ended up paying more attention to the technical stuff like camera angles than the actual story. I understand the message of the piece, but it really dragged on for me.
I actually kind of liked this short, which I wasn't expecting to after reading the comments beforehand. But it was kind of interesting to see something from an inanimate objects perspective. I did think the length was kind of unnecessary but overall I really think it did a good job. I will say however that it did feel extremely pretentious at various points, which isn't really a bad thing if done well, but I wouldn't say that was the case here.
I thought this film was too long. The originality was of the short is probably its strong suit, but other than that I don't have too many positive things to say about it. It was interesting though.
I really did not mind watching this. I really appreciate films that are original and unpredictable. It might have been a tad long but whenever I grew a little bored, the next shot would be beautiful. I wish the story had more of a solid conclusion. It felt as if he shot a lot of material and wrote the dialogue as he watched it. I can see where a lot of people had a problem with the length but it did not really bother me. I wasn't expecting an action-packed short so I enjoyed this film.
